Augusta Savage was an African-American artist and sculptor in the early 20th century in the United States, and one of the important figures of the Harlem Renaissance. She used sculpture as a medium to break racial and gender discrimination and express the history and culture of African Americans through her works. Savage has been passionate about art since she was a child. Despite economic difficulties and social prejudice, she still insisted on pursuing her artistic dream and eventually became the first African-American female artist to be accepted to study at the Julian Academy in Paris. Not only did she achieve success in art, she also actively promoted the status of African Americans in art education and culture, and was one of the leading figures in the African-American art world at the time. Her work “Lift Every Voice and Sing Statue” is a symbolic sculpture that shows the process of African Americans rising up from oppression and pursuing equality.
The sculpture has a unique appearance design. The five fingers of the huge palm gradually turn into a row of rising figures, symbolizing the awakening and unity of the power of the black group. The figures in the Lift Every Voice and Sing Statue stand in turn, with firm facial expressions, conveying tenacious vitality and indomitable spirit. This sculpture is made of dark bronze with a smooth and textured surface. The heavy color tone complements the figure’s resolute expression, showing the African American’s firm belief in pursuing freedom and equality. The overall design is full of power, showing both historical oppression and future hope, and has become one of the important symbols of black culture. Welcome to contact us for more details.
