J. Duquesnoy, full name Jérôme Duquesnoy was a famous Belgian sculptor in the 17th century, known for his outstanding sculptures. As one of the representatives of the Baroque art style, his most well-known work is the iconic statue Manneken Pis in Brussels, which means “Manneken Pis”. The sculpture was created in 1619. The original work was cast in bronze and vividly showed the scene of a naked little boy peeing. It became a symbol of humor and free spirit of Brussels citizens. J. Duquesnoy’s works are known for their fine craftsmanship and accurate grasp of human structure. His precision in carving details makes his works of art full of vitality and historical value. The Bronze Manneken Pis sculpture in the picture is a bronze replica fountain of Manneken Pis, which carefully restores the form of the classic original.
The whole sculpture is made of bronze, and the surface presents a soft metallic luster, giving the work a sense of heaviness and history. The little boy in the Bronze Manneken Pis sculpture is in a natural and relaxed posture, with curly hair, round facial lines and tender body proportions portrayed delicately and realistically, showing the innocence and vitality unique to children. The surface of the sculpture has been carefully polished to present a soft bronze luster, which not only has the texture of metal, but also gives the work a sense of history and heaviness. The base is simple and stable, easy to place indoors and outdoors, and has a fountain function. The water flows out from the boy’s private parts, adding fun and interactivity.
