The fountain sculpture of animal struggle in Versailles is a very classic sculpture. The fountain designed by Cornelius van Clive was made in 1687. They are composed of fighting animals, showing an impressive sense of reality. This lion and wolf statue depicts a lion putting down a wolf, and the lion pressing the wolf under its body makes it have no resistance, as if it were subdued. When the wolf opened his mouth and howled, the water from the fountain ran out of his mouth. The lion on its body is also roaring loudly, as if it is using its roaring momentum to overwhelm the prey. A fountain is also placed in its mouth to let water flow out of the lion’s mouth. In each part, the water of the victorious animals falls into the upper basin, while the water of the defeated animals falls into the lower basin.
This lion and wolf statue is made by using the traditional wax losing method. It vividly portrays the lion king like momentum and the brave and powerful image. The wolf is pressed under its body and cannot move. It can only express its emotion through its eager hissing. This sculpture vividly portrays the images of lions and wolves, as well as their rich psychological activities. It seems that we have seen a new battle scene. In the Palace of Versailles, you can see four groups of such vivid scenes, and each group has very wonderful fighting scenes.
