1. Introduction of pasiphae statue
On the Ribes Roges beach in Vilanova i la Geltr ú, there is a striking sculpture called Pasiphae statue, created by the famous sculptor Oscar Estruga. This sculpture is solemn and magnificent, located on the breakwater of the beach, attracting the attention of tourists and art enthusiasts.
The pasiphae statue is made of three tons of copper material, showcasing a legend from Greek mythology. According to ancient legend, Poseidon, the sea god, once gave a white bull to King Minos of Crete as a memorial. However, King Minos failed to fulfill his promise, angering Poseidon. In order to seek revenge, Poseidon cast a spell and made the wife of King Minos, Pasifa, fall madly
in love with the white cow. At the Queen’s command, engineer Daedalus built a wooden cow, in which Pasifi hid. So, Pasifi’s strange love with the White Bull was realized, and their union gave birth to the Bullhead Monster. The bullhead monster was ultimately defeated by the hero Theseus, freeing the peoples of the Mediterranean from fear.
The pasiphae statue not only has ornamental value, but also has educational significance, showcasing the love and fate in ancient myths and legends to people.
